Pros

  • Sustainable
  • Snug fit
  • Fun designs

Cons

  • Toe shape may not sit comfortable on some feet

Residing on a farm there’s always animals around–ranging from cows, to chickens and dogs. It’s fun to have the playful Women’s Mother Clucker Crew Lightweight Lifestyle socks on my feet when filling up the water troughs! The socks slid comfortably into my boots, while still poking out the top for a little playfulness. Why not have some fun on your feet while doing chores?

As for the Women’s Home Base Shorty Heavyweight Lifestyle Sock, the cushion is unmatched! I paired these socks with a late-night Netflix binge session and bowl of mint chocolate chip moose tracks ice cream (yes, that is a flavor!) Usually, my toes get super cold when sitting still and take quite a long time to eventually warm up. However, the shorty socks kept my piggies nice and toasty even as I dug into a huge bowl of ice cream. The “shorty” height also provided enough coverage over my ankles to stay warm without the bulky-ness like other sock companies. They’ll definitely be a staple for the next binge-worthy show!

Fit/Comfort

In total, I put four styles of socks to the test. My typical shoe size is anywhere from a Women’s 7.5-8, so size medium is where I landed. I found both the Women’s Solid Basic Crew Lightweight Lifestyle Sock and the Women’s Lucky Lady No Show Lightweight Lifestyle Sock to be true to size, but the toe shape had a more pointed style. Personally, for these two pairs, that toe shape didn’t quite work with my foot anatomy, but a bit of adjusting helped. The Mother Clucker and Shorty designs were a perfect, snug fit.

Look/Style

For style points the Women’s Mother Clucker Crew Lightweight Lifestyle Sock was funky and I appreciated the “Sunny” yellow color as the backdrop. The Lucky Lady No Shows had a cute mix of colorful ladybugs in addition to stripes on the heels and toes. It’s always a plus having recognizable patterns when sifting through the sock drawer!

Features

Each pair of socks’ features are clearly labeled on the packaging. Since the socks are all mostly made of merino wool they are moisture wicking, odor resistant, and thermo-regulating. Even after long days in boots there is no bad odor like other sock brands.

Weight/Packability

Easy peasy to pack! Tuck one sock into the other or fold them into a handy packing cube for organization.

Function/Performance

Regardless of the environment, all of the socks fit the need at hand. The Cluckers provided cushion and were higher than my boots to prevent irritation at the top. The Shortys were great for keeping my feet warm on movie nights and the snug fit increased the cozy levels. To continuously perform better, all Darn Tough socks are tried and tested, made with cushion in mind, and adjusted based on customer feedback.

Durability/Construction

My Darn Tough socks from years ago have held up phenomenally even with MANY washes! These newer pairs have been tried and tested as well without any troubles. The Darn Tough “high-density knit” formula paired with merino wool material creates one of the most durable socks. They even offer an “unconditional lifetime guarantee!”

What sets this product apart?

The attention to detail and tried and true knitting methods are what make this gear top notch!

Who is this product for?

This product is for anyone that enjoys wearing socks. I’m serious! Once you try Darn Tough socks, you’ll never want to use another brand again.

Friendliness to the Earth

If you thought Darn Tough’s comfort standards were high, note that their commitment to sustainability is even greater. They are working towards only using 100% RWS-certified wool as part of their commitment to the Responsible Wool Standard and have already removed all PFAS from their products!

Their packaging is made with recycled FSC-certified paper and vegetable ink while the eCommerce boxes are made of 100% post-consumer recycled cardboard! Not to mention that they are a Vermont-based brand and do not outsource in order to support their local community and the environment.

The Final Word

Ultimately Darn Tough socks are the best socks around. They’re made in the USA by the local Vermont community, have a serious commitment to sustainability, and are both stylish and comfortable! Happy to be adding some pairs to my collection and guess I need to make room in the sock drawer for future pairs!
