Performance in the Mountains

Living amidst the ever changing weather you experience in the Rocky Mountains, I encountered a variety of weather conditions, from relentless winds to unexpected snow squalls. The Coefficient Storm Hoody proved to be a steadfast companion, shielding me from the elements while maintaining breathability. Its gridded interior provided additional warmth without sacrificing mobility, ensuring I could tackle challenging ascents with ease.

Cold Desert Nights

I also spend a lot of time guiding clients through the beautiful canyons of Utah. Venturing into the desert posed a different set of challenges, particularly as temperatures plummeted when you are deep in a slot canyon, or after sunset. A quality fleece is a must. The Coefficient Storm Hoody rose to the occasion. It was a welcomed companion as I would climb out of my sleeping bag in the cold dewy morning and wait for my coffee to heat up. offering unparalleled comfort and warmth during chilly nights. Its PFC-Free DWR finish provided water resistance  in, while the stretch fabric allowed for unrestricted movement—a must during canyon explorations.

Features

Three exterior zippered pockets and two internal pockets and two internal pockets make it easy to keep all of your small necessities handy, organized, and secured as you explore the outdoors. A large hood fits nicely over a helmet while not feeling too big without a helmet. It packs down to about the size of a 1 liter water bottle making it a no brainer when you are trying to decide what essentials you need to pack. While it may feel thin the wind proof/water resistant coating does wonders when it comes to warmth.

Room for Improvement

While the Coefficient Storm Hoody boasts impressive performance, it’s not without its minor drawbacks. I’ve noticed that the light coloration that I chose tended to show a lot of dirt (this probably won’t be an issue if you go with a darker color). Additionally, the sleeves were slightly too long for me, though they didn’t hinder performance in any significant way. For reference, I am 5’7 with a 5’7 wingspan.

The Final Word

In conclusion, the Black Diamond Equipment Men’s Coefficient Storm Hoody is an excellent go to choice for any adventure in the outdoors. It excels in a vast variety of environments. Its lightweight design, coupled with a host of features including a zip chest pocket and two zip hand pockets, give it extremely versatility. Whether navigating the rugged terrain of the rock mountains, embracing the tranquility of cold desert nights, or exploring dark deep canyons that never see the warmth of the sun, the Coefficient Storm Hoody is a dependable companion that I’ll confidently rely on for countless adventures to come.
