As an enthusiastic runner and outdoor enthusiast, I’ve come to find that having the right gear for the right conditions is key. Living in Denver, for much of the year there is a need for gear that can keep me warm and dry. This fall, I decided to test GOREWEAR’s products while training for the Moab Trail Marathon. Most of my training was in-and-around the city for convenience sake. Run’s ranged from 4 to 18 miles, and living in Colorado, conditions can be variable, especially in the fall.
In my experience, when running in the fall and winter, every layer matters. I’m all about lightweight performance, freedom of movement, and no compromise on warmth or durability. Does this kit meet the criteria? Here’s my take:
Fit/Comfort
Concurve GORE-TEX Jacket
The fit is sleek and athletic without feeling restrictive. GOREWEAR nailed the balance between freedom of movement and snug protection. The cuffs stayed put, and the adjustable hood prevented cold air from creeping in.
Everyday Long Sleeve Shirt
True to its name, this shirt felt like a second skin. The fabric is soft and breathable, with flatlock seams that eliminate chafing during long runs. I did find the sleeves to be a bit short, but that is also personal preference as I prefer sleeves that come out past my wrist.
Concurve Tights
These tights fit perfectly—compressive but not overly tight. The wide waistband stayed in place without digging in, and the drawstring made them easy to keep tight. The length is exceptional, not too short as I have found other brands to be.
Look/Style
All three pieces have a minimalist, modern aesthetic. The jacket’s reflective details are both stylish and functional, while the tights and shirt have clean, subtle designs that pair well with flashy shoes, sunnies or hat.
Features
Concurve GORE-TEX Jacket
The star feature here is the GORE-TEX Active membrane. It kept me completely dry during a light snowstorm while allowing sweat to escape. The hood adjusts well and doesn’t obstruct peripheral vision—perfect for windy conditions.
Everyday Long Sleeve Shirt
This piece excels in moisture-wicking and temperature regulation. It works as a reliable base layer under the jacket.
Concurve Tights
The phone pocket is excellent, keeping a phone snug and in place with a flap and the key or gel pocket in the rear is easily accessible and a good size for anything else small you’d like to have with you.
Weight/Packability
The jacket folds down surprisingly small for a GORE-TEX piece, easily fitting into my hydration pack. The shirt and tights are lightweight and compressible, making them ideal for layering without bulk.
Function/Performance
These pieces work seamlessly together to create an adaptable system. The jacket was a fortress against wind and snow, while the tights and shirt kept me warm without overheating. Despite the tough terrain—icy patches, snow, and exposed ridges—the gear performed flawlessly.
Durability/Construction
After several weeks of heavy use, there were no signs of wear. GOREWEAR’s construction is top-notch, with reinforced stitching and durable fabrics that didn’t pill.
What sets this product apart?
The jacket’s GORE-TEX protection but lightweight breathable nature and running features combine for the best running specific jacket I’ve seen or used. The tights’ functional details and fit set them apart from competitors and feel softer and “stretchier” than any other baselayer I’ve tried.
Who is it for?
Runners, hikers, and outdoor athletes tackling cold, wet, or windy conditions. I also used the tights and shirt for base layers in some early season ski touring and they worked great for this application as well.
Friendliness to the Earth
GOREWEAR is making strides in sustainability by incorporating environmentally friendly practices, such as reducing water usage and implementing bluesign®-approved materials. While not entirely carbon-neutral, their efforts signal a commitment to a greener future.
Final Thoughts
The Concurve GORE-TEX Jacket, Everyday Long Sleeve Shirt, and Concurve Tights are a powerhouse combination for winter athletes. With exceptional comfort, style, and weatherproof performance, this trio is a must-have for anyone braving the elements, especially in Colorado! Whether you’re running in the Rockies or walking the dog on a frosty morning, these pieces are worth every penny.
