Cons
- Can be a learning curve to learn how to use
I work on expedition type courses with NOLS and Outwardboud in the US as well as freelance in the Indian Himalayas. It means that most of my year is spent camping in wild places, enjoying the sunrises and sunsets. Most cold evenings are spent by the campfire with students. When the weather isn’t cooperating, I am reading a book in my tent and journaling.
I am super happy to have got my hands on the BioLite Headlamp 750 (150 g). The slick headband has a low profile design that is cutting edge innovation for active outdoor adventures. Boasting of IPX4 water resistant coating, it is weatherproof. This makes it an ideal choice, not only for running or cycling in the rain and cold, but for mountaineering and bad weather nights.

Technical specifications
750 lumens brightens up about 130 meters ahead of you. It is super bright hence BioLite has given burst modes of 30 seconds for this brightness.
By default, this Headlamp 750 runs on 500 lumens in consistent circular fashion. It means that as the battery starts to get low, the power output still remains the same. When compared to competition, this is what sets it ahead of the game. And other features mentioned in next section, making it a must have!
Since it is a 500-750 lumens headlamp, it comes with separate battery like many others in this category.
The front: Lamp with single button
It has following modes:
Red flood, white spot, shite flood, spot-plus-flood, white strobe, and 30-second burst with 750 lumens
The rear: Rechargeable battery as well as red strobe and red flood on one button; 30 second bursts on second.
How comfortable is it to bike or run with it?
Bio-Lite has really worked on an intelligent design to do away with over the head strap which makes it so much easy to just put it on in the dark or when its freezing temperatures. Its moisture wicking band helps to keep sweat off our eyes.
- Easy adjustments via pulling the plastic cinches.
- 4 angles to adjust if you want to focus closer while biking or hiking or farther while running or mountaineering.
- It is weatherproof, means IPX4 allows you to wear it in rain!
How easy is it to switch between modes?
What I found really handy was its memory feature which recalls the last mode turned on after you turn it off (with a single click). That’s great in winter especially when we have gloves on. No fumbles anymore.
The light patterns are another special feature that I loved and use the most for running as well as mountaineering. When running on streets or guiding in snow, the flood/rear red strobe is excellent tool and spot-plus-flood is great while trail runs or night hiking.
How does the battery perform and when to recharge?
Extended extreme battery life has been made possible by pass through charging. It has 3ft (run-forever) USB cable that can be connected to a powerbank which we carry anyway for our smart phones. This makes it super easy to recharge even when it is on.
It also has 4 light dots, which indicate battery level and when you would want to charge it.
How much does it cost?
BioLite HeadLamp 750 costs $99.95. it’s a fair price and pretty reasonable considering the innovative features and high performance.
Room for Improvement
The button functions are different than on other headlamps. Without reading the manual, it might take some time to get used to the mode system. So, when unboxing, hold on to the instructions and you are set!
The Final Word
To sum it up, BioLite HeadLamp 750 is a reliable, high powered light not only for ultra-runners but also rock climbers, mountaineers, and hikers who live out in the outdoors to complete their routes and climb the peaks in all types of weather conditions.
