ProView – Club Ride Kit

This setup is functional and looks great!  Great for a few quick laps at the bike park on Friday after work, riding to work, or riding around town.  It even fit in at a broadway show in NYC!

Club Ride New West, Gunslinger, and Mountain Surf Short

Product Description: While the New West won’t make you a better country singer it will sure make you look the part! We kept our classic western look but added 5% spandex to the shirt so you can move in comfort at the local wagon ride or on the trail. Keeping with tradition we kept the pearl snaps and all the other bells and whistles like reflective accents and a zippered rear pocket to give the shirt the dirt cred it deserves!

Summary

This kit is a jack of all trades kit that doesn’t even need the master of none designation.  It mastered Broadway, date nights, Bike park, XC, town, and to work riding.  It is my go-to kit for almost anything bike related now and with proven crash durability, it will hopefully last for a long time.

Cons

  • Chamois a little stiff for walking around the bar in for a while

The material seems high quality with good stretch and breathability. The chamois feels a bit stiff and flat, but looks soft. I was excited when I pulled it out and it looked like I could wear it to work in addition to it looking breathable and having some stretch for riding.  I liked the buttons that snap as well.

I tested this setup at the local bike park after work for the majority of its use.  This included a couple of hot and dry days which were hotter than 90 degrees and sunny.  I also tested it near Winter Park on some XC trails where it was a bit cooler, starting at 45 and raising to 60 in the sun by the afternoon.  In addition to several days of mountain bike testing, I also tested these riding to work, on a biking brewery tour around town, and even to a Broadway show.

Performance

My favorite things about this setup is its versatility, comfort, and durability. For versatility I appreciate a piece of gear that can be used in many ways.  This shirt fit just that-working for hot dusty days at the local bike park and also for nice dinners after the ride or out and about in New York City.  I did look a little out of place on our long XC ride in the mountains in a button-up shirt, but fit right in at the distillery after our ride.

Comfort

The whole setup was extremely comfortable.  The chamois is the most comfortable chamois I have ridden even on a fairly long day in Winter Park (even beyond the 2 hours CR says that this chamois is designed for). The stretch under the armpits of the shirt allows me to have a full range of motion when railing tabletops and tight berms at the bike park, but is well hidden and doesn’t look like a bike shirt when I wear it riding to work. I even tested the durability of the kit on a long ride at winter park where I had an over the handlebars experience that scratched my full face and only had one thread out of place on the shirt after a thorough dusting off of the shirt and pants.  I was impressed. (Side note, this shirt is the perfect length and did not leave any skin exposed between my elbow pads and shoulder to get “road” burn from.)
