ProView – Spinera Tenaya 140 Review

Living along Colorado’s Front Range means water days usually require a commitment – a reservoir twenty minutes away on a weeknight, or a high country lake an hour+ into the foothills or mountains on the weekend. Either way, I needed a boat that could handle both scenarios, and one that my family could actually load into my truck bed, launch, and enjoy without a production every time we wanted to get on the water. That’s the job the Spinera Tenaya 140 has been doing all season.

The real test came on a trip up to one of our go-to high country lakes. It has the typical alpine lake put-in with a rocky shoreline that has torn holes in cheaper inflatables we’ve owned before. I’ll admit I hesitated dragging the Tenaya over the rocks, out of habit more than anything, but it didn’t even flinch. 

The Tenaya comes with two universal mounting plates on the floor in front of each seat, which easily accept third-party accessories. I mounted an adjustable rod holder, which lets me troll lures solo or with a boat mate. Fly fishing off the Tenaya is also a breeze, since it sits nicely on the water and allows for an easy cast. Between that trip and a handful of evenings at the local reservoir, this kayak has become the inflatable we grab first, rod holder already mounted and ready to go

Fit/Comfort

You’ll notice the Tenaya 140’s stability right away, whether you’re climbing in or already out on the water; no wobbly, “am I about to tip” moment that some inflatables give you. The seats are comfortable and adjustable enough that any passenger can dial in their own setup without compromise.

Look/Style

It’s got a slick look and color scheme that doesn’t scream “inflatable pool toy” the way some budget kayaks do – it actually looks like the premium boat it is.

Features

There are straps everywhere – interior straps, bow and stern straps – plus carabiner-linked bumpers that double as attachment points for other gear. The two universal floor mounts are a favorite feature of mine. Noted earlier, I mounted a fishing rod holder to one and used it for trolling with great results. I plan to install a fish finder to the front mount, leveling up my fishing game on still water. 

Weight/Packability

Packed down into its backpack, it’s manageable for one person to carry, which matters when reaching the water requires a hike. Fully inflated, it’s best carried by two people, though the side grips make solo carrying doable in a pinch.

Function/Performance

On still water, even with a little wind kicking up, the Tenaya 140 maneuvers excellently. It’s turned into our go-to for fly fishing and trolling, thanks in large part to that universal mount and rod holder combo.

Durability/Construction

The construction feels genuinely solid, and the heavier-weight material shows in how it holds up over time. Once inflated, it maintains its rigidity well, even after hours on the water in the sun. That rigidity translates directly to how it tracks – the hull stays firm under paddle strokes instead of flexing or wobbling, which makes for a straighter, more efficient glide.

What Sets This Product Apart?

The universal floor mounts are the standout for me. Turning the Tenaya 140 into a fishing platform with a rod holder attachment is a genuinely useful upgrade path that a lot of tandem inflatables don’t offer, and it’s part of why this boat gets used for more than just casual paddles.

I can’t speak to the full environmental footprint of the materials, but the durability here does the sustainability work in its own way – a boat built to hold up over years of use, rather than needing to be replaced after a rough season, is a meaningful mark in its favor.

The Final Word

The Spinera Tenaya 140 exceeded my expectations. It’s become the staple inflatable watercraft for my family and earned a permanent spot in our gear lineup. As a fishing kayak, it ticks all the boxes – stable and comfortable for long hours on the water, roomy enough for a cooler and tackle, and the mounting plates allow for customization that most inflatable kayaks don’t offer.
