ProView – Pit Viper The Shelldon Revlock Review
Colorado spring weather is unpredictable, which made it the perfect setting to test Pit Viper’s The Shelldon Revlock sunglasses. I took them out on two different activities: an 8-mile trail run in mixed sun and clouds, followed by a 6-mile scramble hike in brighter, sunnier conditions.

Summary
The Pit Viper The Shelldon Revlock handled Colorado’s unpredictable spring weather like a champ, offering a secure, comfortable fit and a lens tint that worked well in both bright sun and shifting cloud cover.
Overall
4.8Pros
- Excellent lens tint for mixed weather
- Stayed secure during running and scrambling
- Durable feel and sturdy construction
Cons
- Minor slipping when very sweaty
- Side shields could be more color-matched
The first outing was on a day with scattered clouds rolling through with bursts of sun. It was the kind of day where the light changes constantly, and the lens tint really stood out. They were dark enough to cut the glare when the sun came out, but never felt too shaded once the clouds rolled back in.

A few days later, I wore them again on a 6-mile scramble and hike with steeper, more technical terrain and more consistent sun. Between running miles, sweat, rock scrambling, and changing light conditions, it felt like a great real-world test of how they’d actually perform during mountain use.
I spend a lot of time trail running, hiking, and biking in Colorado, so I tend to be pretty particular about sunglasses for outdoor use. If they bounce, slide, or become something I have to think about while moving, I notice immediately. I was especially interested in how these would hold up during higher-output movement while still feeling stylish enough to wear beyond the trail.
Fit & Comfort
The Shelldon Revlock fit securely and felt comfortable right away. The rubberized grip on both the nose and behind the ears helped keep them in place throughout my run and scramble. During the 8-mile run, they stayed put almost the entire time, with only very minimal slipping toward the end once my face got sweaty.
On the scramble hike, they didn’t budge once, even while moving over rocks and changing positions frequently. Overall, the fit felt dependable without any pressure points or discomfort.
Look & Style
Style-wise, these are just cool. The purple tortoise shell pattern gives them more personality than a standard performance sunglass while still keeping a classic shape that feels easy to wear. They strike a really nice balance between sporty and casual, which makes them just as wearable off the trail.

Features
The removable side shields are a nice functional feature and are super straightforward to put on and take off. For my testing, I mostly chose not to keep them on since I wasn’t using them for eye protection purposes, but I do think they’ll be a great add-on for mountain biking and snowboarding.
Even without the shields, I was impressed by how little side light came through. Coverage still felt solid in brighter conditions.
My only note is that I wish the side shields matched the purple frame color instead of being black, so they blended in a little better aesthetically.
Weight & Packability
These feel lightweight enough for long runs and hikes without ever feeling flimsy. I never felt aware of them on my face, which is always a good sign during longer efforts.
Function & Performance
This is where they really stood out. The lens darkness felt perfect for Colorado’s mixed weather, dark enough for bright sun, but still easy to see through during overcast moments.
They performed equally well on both smoother trail miles and more technical scrambling terrain. No bouncing, no constant adjusting, and no distracting movement.
Durability & Construction
The arms feel especially solid and sturdy. They have a durable construction that feels like they can easily handle getting tossed into a bag, knocked around in the car, or packed alongside other gear without issue.
They definitely feel built for actual outdoor use rather than just looking the part.

Areas for Improvement
The only real area for improvement for me is the slight slipping once fully sweaty at the very end of longer efforts, though it was still minimal.
I’d also love to see the side shields offered in a matching frame color.
Friendliness to the Earth
Pit Viper emphasizes durability and long-term use, which helps reduce the need for frequent replacement. The sturdy construction and overall quality suggest these are built to last through multiple seasons of use, which is always a plus from a sustainability perspective.
