ProView – Pit Viper The Hawksbill Revlock Sunglasses Review

Pulling these out of the box, the Revlock’s look like a solid pair of nice sunglasses, especially in the Hawksbill color. The glasses are surprisingly light while still offering features like the rubber nose and over-ear pieces to keep them in place and the removable side shields.

I tested the Revlock sunglasses from Pit Viper everywhere. I wore them on a mountain bike ride in Steamboat, rafting on the Arkansas river, running in Boulder and out and about everywhere I went in between. I’ve been most impressed with how comfortable they are and how well they stay in place while biking and running, especially for being a relatively large frame size for my face. They are also comfortable under my mountain bike helmet, which has a removable chin bar that often pinches against sunglasses or pushes them up off my nose.

In addition to the great fit, the removable side shields are awesome. Driving with them initially took some getting used to but now I’m hooked on how much glare is reduced, especially on the river. Instead of being opaque, like some side-shielded glasses, Pit Viper designed these more tinted, but still translucent so you can still see movement in your peripheral vision. 

These sunglasses also have HDPV (High Definition Pit Viper) polarized lenses that reduce glare and noticeably increase contrast, especially on the river. While paddling through Brown’s Canyon I kept lifting them off my face and back on to see what the difference was looking in the water and it was significantly easier to spot fish and see rocks hiding under the surface while wearing them. 

Finally, these glasses are an awesome style that performs great but also looks good hanging with friends around a campground or sitting on the patio of a brewery. They don’t make it too obvious that you just went on a bike ride (in the best way) and are just overall a cool vibe. I made my husband wear them on the river, too, and am confident he’ll be getting a pair because he loves finding something he can do everything in. 

Friendliness to the Earth

While I couldn’t find anything specific to the sustainability of the Revlock sunglasses in particular, Pit Viper does have a section on their website dedicated to things they care about, which includes reducing their carbon footprint, focusing on sustainable practices and working to protect public lands. 

Room for Improvement

My only complaint with the Revlock is that my fingernails aren’t quite strong enough to release the side shields so I need a friend or butter knife to pop them off. This is also a testament to the quality of the glasses, though, because it’s clear the shields are actually locked in place and won’t rattle loose or pop off. 

Final Thoughts

The Revlock’s are a sweet pair of sunglasses that you can literally do everything in. They’re comfortable, stay in place and both the frames and lenses are high-quality. I’d absolutely recommend them to someone looking for a great pair of adventure sunglasses, everyday sunglasses or a pair that can do it all.
