ProView – Julbo Faster Sunglasses Review

The hardest part about performance sunglasses is finding a pair that can actually keep up with how variable outdoor days are. Between constantly changing light conditions, midwest weather mood swings, and bouncing between sports, I got tired of swapping lenses or carrying multiple pairs around.

Summary

At the end of the day, the Faster became the pair I stopped having to think about. They adapted well across sports, weather, and long days outside without demanding constant adjustment, lens swapping, or compromise.

Overall
4.5

Pros

  • Reactive Lens Technology (mine went from cat 1 to cat 3, filtering 17%-75% respectively of sunlight) for mixed weather
  • Adjustable nose pads (useful for flat nose bridges/Asian faces)
  • Oversized lenses for a very wide field of view

Cons

  • The size was a bit wide for smaller faces
  • Minor slipping when very sweaty and scrambling a lot

I had previously tried fully transition-style sunglasses that shifted from clear to dark, but they often felt awkward for everyday use — especially while driving, where I still wanted some consistent baseline tint instead of waiting for the lenses to react. I needed something adaptable enough for movement, but practical enough to also live in all day when the circumstances called for it.

Over the past six weeks, I put the Julbo Faster Sunglasses (with REACTIV 1-3 Light Amplifier Lens) through pretty much everything I normally throw at gear: a 100km gravel race, long rides, road and trail runs, driving between climbing areas, and climbing trips around the country. The baseline lens tint was a great middle ground that was still really good in tree cover or evening conditions and it was such a boon not having to change lenses when conditions changed to sunnier or full shade to even nighttime biking.

Fit/Comfort

Fit-wise, these sunglasses impressed me more than expected. I have a flat nose bridge, so sport sunglasses usually have a hard time staying on my face, especially when sweat enters the equation. I expected the same of these glasses. Thankfully I was wrong. The lightweight frame really helps a lot with long-term comfort.

Paired with the adjustable nose pads, the sunglasses stayed secure during most of my runs and riding. I will admit that on some of my trail runs and scrambles through rocky areas in humid weather I still found myself readjusting the glasses more frequently. It’s a minor gripe, but one I found notable in the moment. It’s entirely possible that the wider lens size could have contributed to it. Speaking of size…

Style/Performance

While I’m usually not one for oversized glasses, these felt like just the right size to cover my face and protect my eyes from drying out on the bike. These sunglasses still have that athletic silhouette and very wide field of vision. Julbo did a great job mixing style with function. Compared with my Julbo Frequencies, I can barely notice the edge of the Faster lenses.

The Faster’s spherical shape vs Frequency’s cylindrical shape made such a difference for shielding from the wind and giving my eyes more space to just … see all around me. The field of view was very noticeable in the best ways. I was a bit skeptical how much ventilation the Faster would have since it didn’t have noticeable vents like the Frequency, but through windy and hot days, they performed swimmingly! The mono-lens doesn’t seem overbuilt or flashy. They’re clearly designed with a lot of movement in mind.

Sustainability

While I didn’t find much information about the Faster Sunglasses specifically, Julbo uses bio-based materials in many of its frames, has invested in lower-impact manufacturing initiatives, and emphasizes repairability over disposability. They’re not necessarily operating at the level of full supply-chain transparency seen from some industry leaders, but compared to many sport eyewear companies, they seem genuinely engaged in improving their environmental footprint rather than simply treating sustainability like a marketing checkbox.

The Final Word

At the end of the day, the Faster became the pair I stopped having to think about. They adapted well across sports, weather, and long days outside without demanding constant adjustment, lens swapping, or compromise. These are my usual go-to now for all kinds of activities and hobbies. For anyone balancing climbing, running, riding, and everyday outdoor life, they feel like a genuinely versatile tool rather than a hyper-specialized accessory. However, you can definitely use these for racing or other high speed or endurance sports. The amount of technology and thought put into these glasses shows.
