Summary
I trained for and raced my first off-road triathlon in the Agility Peak 6, and it handled everything from dusty singletrack to rocky descents with confidence. The traction is outstanding, the cushioning is comfortable for long miles, and I loved the overall look of the shoe. My only complaint is that I wish Merrell offered a wide-width option, as the toe box felt a little snug on longer runs.
Overall
4.5Pros
- Style/color options
- Lace closure loop
- Forefront rock plate
- Vibram grip
Cons
- Narrow fit with no wide options on website
This year, I was on a mission to complete my very first triathlon- and an off-road one at that. I’ve been a trail running enthusiast for about 10 years, but I was ready to challenge myself by combining several sports I love. I spent months training and preparing for this race, mostly in the rocky, towering peaks of the Wasatch Range in Salt Lake City and the steep trails around Park City.

The Agility Peak 6 saw a little bit of everything. I ran in hot summer temperatures, on dry and dusty singletrack, loose gravel, rocky terrain, and plenty of steep climbs and descents. They also logged plenty of miles during longer training runs, giving me a good feel for how they performed over time.
Fit & Comfort
Merrell nailed the flexibility of the shoe without sacrificing stability in the Agility Peak 6. The shoe moves naturally with your foot, which helps it feel stable without being stiff. I also appreciated the mesh material that allowed my feet to breathe on hotter trail days. If you have a wider foot (like me), the toe box may feel a little snug, especially on longer runs. This is the only reason I gave the fit ⅗ stars. I chose the men’s option instead of the women’s hoping it would be wider, but it still did not feel wide enough for my liking. After longer runs I would start to feel a hot spot on the inside of my feet. A wide option would make this shoe 5/5!
Performance & Traction
Merrell really knows what’s important in a trail runner. The Vibram Megagrip traction provides stellar grip on everything from loose dirt to wet rocks, and I found that the lugs never trapped pebbles or mud like other trail runners I’ve had in the past. In the variety of conditions I tested this shoe in, it always felt reliable even in the most technical terrain.
Features
Merrell definitely packed this shoe with thoughtful trail features without overcomplicating it. The lightweight FloatPro foam provides a soft, energetic feel without feeling overly squishy and allows the shoe to flex naturally when navigating uneven terrain. There is even an added rock plate for underfoot protection, making this trail runner perfect for long days on rugged trails. I also appreciated the elastic lace closure for tucking laces out of the way.

Style
I really like the look of the Agility Peak 6. It’s a functional trail runner that does not look or feel too bulky or aggressive. I also appreciate that Merrell offers more earth tone color options instead of only bright, flashy options. This makes the shoe feel versatile enough to wear to a coffee shop or brewery post run.
What Sets It Apart
What stood out to me most was how versatile this shoe felt. It had enough cushioning to keep my feet comfortable during long training runs, but still felt stable and responsive on rocky, technical trails. The Vibram Megagrip outsole gave me the confidence to move quickly through loose dirt, gravel, and descents without second-guessing my footing. It was just as happy cruising mellow singletrack as it was tackling more technical terrain.
Who It’s For
I’d recommend the Agility Peak 6 to runners looking for a dependable trail shoe that can handle technical terrain without sacrificing comfort. Whether you’re training for your first trail race, tackling long mountain runs, or racing an off-road triathlon like I did, it’s a shoe that inspires confidence when the trails get challenging.
What I Love
- Reliable grip on dusty, loose, and rocky trails.
- Cushioned enough for long training runs without feeling overly soft.
- Stable and confidence-inspiring on technical terrain.
- Lightweight enough that I forgot about them once I started running.

Areas for improvement
As someone with wider feet, I’d love to see just a little more room in the toe box. The shoe never caused major issues, but after longer runs in the summer heat, my forefoot definitely appreciated a little extra space.
Final Word
After months of training and racing in the Agility Peak 6, it’s a shoe I’d confidently reach for on just about any trail run. It strikes a great balance between comfort, protection, and traction without feeling overbuilt or bulky. If Merrell offered a wider fit, this would easily be a 5-star shoe for me. Overall, it’s a dependable trail runner that helped carry me through my first off-road triathlon, and I’d happily lace it up for my next adventure.
