ProView – Maui Jim Ho’okipa Ultra G Review
A pair of sunglasses is always with me whenever I step out the door. The problem I have with these sunglasses is that they are so light that I sometimes forget that I’m wearing them. My eyes are super sensitive to light, so it is nice to always have a pair with me that I can wear on a run but they are still stylish enough to hang out in afterward.

Finding sunglasses that fit and feel comfortable is hard. Then throw in intense activity on top of that, the challenge becomes real. Maui Jim Ho’okipa Ultra G is a stylish photochromic sunglasses that is superlight but comfortable to wear in bright daylight. It was so light that I was looking for them while I had it on my face.

Cons
- Fit better to medium to large head size
- Nose bridge is not quite high enough for flatter nose bridge
After my lasik surgery, my eyes are a bit more sensitive to sunlight. But I run a lot, so sunglasses are a must-have gear for me. I run on the trail most of the time, that means getting in and out of shaded areas and open terrain. A lot of the time, I have to put my glasses up on my hat when I’m in the forest area then put it back on when I’m in the more exposed area.

Ho’okipa Ultra G sunglasses have photochromic lenses, which really help with the transition.
Fit/Comfort
Being Asian and having a somewhat flat nose, a high nose bridge is mandatory. But a lot of them are not comfortable. This model’s nose bridge is not as high as I’d like, so it sits a little close to my eyes. But it is comfortable enough that I don’t notice it as much while running.
It also stays put when I’m running downhill so I was quite surprised. The nose bridge material is soft and didn’t leave a mark on my nose either.

Look/Style
Ho’okaipa Ultra G comes in five different colors and has lenses with rimless style glasses.
Features
There’s an option with a High Transmission photochromic lens that offers seamless adaptation in high contrast conditions. The lens is also ultra-light and impact-resistant. It is also Rx-able.
Weight/Packability
The frame feels super light and flexible but it has a sturdy fit.
Function/Performance
The glasses work for high intensity activities but also are a great fit to hang around town. Even though it has HT photochromic lenses, I still feel it is a bit dark for high forested areas.

Durability/Construction
At first, the glasses feel fragile because of the rimless style, so they require careful handling. But they feature ”Maui Ultra” making them highly durable and impact-resistant while remaining exceptionally lightweight.
Friendliness to the Earth
Maui Jim has taken steps to implement green practices during production and recycling initiatives for its end-of-life products.

The Final Word
The Maui Jim Ho’okipa Ultra G are a comfortable pair of sunglasses that I can wear for a long time during activities without having to take them off because they’re too tight or rubbing behind my ears.
