ProView – Duonamic Ultimate Rings Travel Package

For the last five years or so I have been pairing down, donating, and overall just getting rid of my bulky belongings. After living and working from my van for so long I find that I really appreciate items that work well and take up as little space as possible. Workout gear has always been especially challenging for me to travel with. Especially if I am flying instead of driving somewhere. Staying in shape is important to me but it can be challenging when you are always on the go. Sure, I have some body weight workout routines that I can do anywhere but after partially separating my shoulder a few years back, some body weight exercises cause unnecessary pain so I tend to avoid them.

If you are a gymnast or come from a gymnast background then surly you have used rings before. I, however, have not so working out with rings is a totally new experience for me. One that I am really learning to enjoy. 

First things first, to use these rings you will need the Duonamic Eleviia door way pull up bar (pictured above) to attach the rings. It’s not immediately clear on their website but the kit does include the EIeviia.

I was hoping that I could rig this system so that I could use the rings while traveling in my van but I have yet to find a safe way to do it. So, for now, the bulk of my testing has been done in the doorways of roadside hotel rooms and friends houses. 

Performance

Out of the box all of the parts seems really well made. The Eleviia hasnt left marks or damage even on white doorways and walls. The webbing for the rings seems high quality and I have no doubt that a doorframe would break before the Eleviia or the webbing/rings. The straps for the rings are very customizable in length which is great for changing up your exercises and adapting to different sized humans. The straps have velcro pieces near the rings that make it easy to deal with excess strap length. 

I found that it does fit most doorways but it definitely doesn’t fit all doorways so if you are thinking of purchasing this for your house make sure you measure your doorways ahead of time. 

The rings are very smooth and have the feel and look of unfinished wood. I like this because they don’t feel slippery in your hand and they don’t have an odor associated with a wood stain. I have fairly large hands and the rings are a good size for me. I read that the rings are slightly larger than traditional rings to help with grip. The Duonamic rings are 1.25” in diameter. I have never used traditional gymnast rings so I cannot confirm if they are better or worse for grip. 

The whole kit has a nice and refined look so if this is important to you than you’ll be happy to know they look as nice as they function. 

The kit includes two sets of carabiners that feel high quality. However, the triangle link strap carabiners have a locking mechanism that would stick every now and then. They wouldn’t stick un an unsafe way, they were just hard to close from time to time. I think this is due to the black paint used on the carabiners. 

One thing that you will need to be careful of is that these rings are not to be used at an angle greater than 30 degrees. If you try this (like I did) you’ll pull the Eleviia right off your door frame and it will come crashing down on your head. 

Being a complete novice working out with rings I found that I actually had no idea what workouts I could do. I thought maybe the instructions included with the kit would give me some insite but alas I had to turn to google to figure out what I could do with these. I did find some options on the Duonamic website such as pushups, pullups, rows, and dips. 

What you can do might also be influenced by the width of your doorway. I have really long arms so in smaller doorways I felt a bit cramped. 

Lastly, these rings are only recommended for those weighing under 250lbs. 

What Sets It Apart

I think what sets it apart from a regular doorway pullup bar is definitely the versatility and packability of the entire kit. You would have no problem stashing it in your cary on even with todays horrible baggage policies. It’s also small enough that you can toss it in your car for a long road trip and you wouldn’t even notice it taking up space. 

I also find that I get a better workout with rings as opposed to something fasted to the doorway. The rings are suspended and that helps fire all kinds of stability muscles that I don’t feel when I am doing traditional pull ups or pushups.

Who Is This Product For

I think this product is great for people who have a hard time doing certain exercises due to joint pain. I’ve broken several bones throughout my life and I have a hard time doing pushups due to wrist and shoulder pain. However, with this kit I was able to perform pushups pain free. I also think that this is a great travel kit. So, if you are someone who like to workout on the go – then definitely take a look at the Duonamic Ultimate Rings Travel Package. 

The Final Word

The Duonamic Ultimate Rings Travel Package is a must have for those looking to expand upon a body weight routine while traveling. It’s small enough to pack in a carryon but well made and sturdy enough to stand up to the rigors of long term travel. I wish it was a bit more adjustable so I could use different sized doorways. I think in most modern doorways this kit will be just fine but if you live in an older house you might have trouble finding the right sized doorframe.
