Summary

Great for a standard snowboarder or skier looking for a little extra cushion to break falls. For a non-adjustable knee pad, the sizing chart is on point, replicates the natural knee range of motion, and stays in place.

Overall
4.9

Pros

  • Comfortable
  • Secure Fit
  • Flexible

Cons

  • Only covers knee cap

Fit/Comfort

Riding halfpipe at a competitive level can be risky, which is why, on top of testing these knee pads, I also wear wrist guards, a back protector vest, and butt pads. While adding the SHRED. knee pads to the mix I don’t feel like I’m being Frankensteined together – in fact, I don’t feel them at all! When ordering, I followed the sizing chart to a tee and ordered a Small (above knee cap measurement: 15 1/2”) (calf measurement: 13).

The elastic band is tight above the knee cap, but not enough to cut off circulation. Further, the clear anti-slip band is thick and durable, helping keep the knee pads in place. The only time I remember I’m wearing them is if I fall.

Look/Style

The SHRED Flexi Knee pads blend right in with the natural figure of the human body. They follow the branding colors of the company: black, orange, and blue. How about some tie-dye?

Weight/Packability

To make my life easier, I like to stay organized. That way, if something is out of plac,e it will be easier to find. My snowboard gear is no exception. My helmet becomes my gear bucket when not in use as I store my wristguards, goggles, and gloves underneath the helmet strap. The knee pads fit right into the mix and don’t add too much extra weight.

Performance

After the big U.S. Toyota Grand Prix Halfpipe competition, where various Olympians gathered to qualify for the 2026 Olympics, Copper opened its superpipe to the public. My first alley oop of the season had some rust on it as I came sliding sideways down the 22-foot vertical halfpipe wall. Weee! But I felt the pads working then as I landed right on the edge of the padding. This resulted in a small bruise and a realization that the knee pads are designed for lighter use.

Overall, for simple falls like slipping out of a deep carve or catching a toe-edge, I’d say these knee pads will get the job done. These types of falls require less rotation and maneuvers, so you will most likely land on your knee cap. For more serious risks like sending it at the terrain park, or freeriding, I would consider looking at the SHRED. NOSHOCK Heavy Duty version. This product has padding all around the knee.

Durability/Construction

It is apparent that the materials used are of high-quality. In my time testing, the elastic hasn’t expanded. And through all the falls has held up behind my snowpants.

Friendliness to the Earth

While the knee pads are made of polyester, SHRED. is a part of the 1% for the Planet initiative, where they donate 1% of global online sales to environmental initiatives. SHRED.’s goggle strap is also 84% made with recycled plastic bottles, which will allow them to recycle about 170 plastic bottles every 100 pairs of goggles made. SHRED is committed to bringing awareness and inspiring others to innovate away from single use plastic.

The Final Word

If you’re looking for a light-weight knee pad to soften the plate when you eat snow you will not be disappointed with these knee pads. These non-adjustable pads fit securely and come to the rescue when necessary.
