Cons

  • Sleeves run a bit long

It can be difficult to find the perfect outer layer for bike riding. Sometimes it is weatherproof, but too heavy, or ultra-lightweight, but not very weatherproof. I was excited at the opportunity to try out the GOREWEAR Endure Jacket as I have been impressed with many of their other products. I was visiting Arkansas for a gravel race. I also traveled with my mountain bike to take advantage of the endless amounts of hand-cut trails around the town. While I was there a cold front swept through with the temps in the high 40-the 30s Fahrenheit and a bit of rain. This was the perfect scenario to test out the jacket. My friend and I took off from our front door and put in 20 miles of single track, gravel, and pavement. During this ride, the Endure proved very versatile.

Fit/Comfort

I tested a size medium even though I normally wear a small (5’3, 135 lbs). I found the medium-size jacket to fit me well. With the boxy cut, it adds room for more substantial layers for colder weather, and the dropped tail protection is a plus for muddy rides.

Look/Style

This jacket is built for a regular fit and it’s not bulky. The Endure jacket was designed to look stylish on and off the bike even for those casual rides to the coffee shop.

Features

The hood is an over-helmet style with full adjustment from the front and back with a stiffened peak that flips over a mountain bike helmet, not intruding into your peripheral vision. It also features two front pockets, which are useful for everyday wear, and rubberized zip pulls that are easy to find even when wearing gloves. Even with all these features, the jacket packs into an internal pocket, so you can easily pack this away into your handlebar bag or small enough for even your jersey back pockets.

Weight/Packability

It’s key to remember just how many features the Endure jacket has while weighing just 8.6 ounces, especially when comparing it to other shells in its class. This isn’t to disparage other shells but priorities include waterproofness, packability, and movement and the Endure jacket excels at all of these things.

Function/Performance

The Endure is made from Gore-Tex Paclite Plus material, which GOREWEAR claims is guaranteed to be waterproof, while maintaining good breathability. We did get rained on for a good first half of our ride and the Endure jacket stood up to the rain while also keeping me from sweating like most other “waterproof” jackets.

Durability/Construction

The.GORE-TEX PACLITE® Plus fabric was a refreshing demonstration of how far waterproofing technologies have come. The fabric is pliable and lightweight while offering flawless protection against cold and water. The two-layer unlined construction has a GORE-TEX membrane laminated to an abrasion-resistant outer face textile resulting in durable weatherproof protection

The Final Word

The GOREWEAR Endure Jacket is an excellent waterproof jacket that delivers breathable performance. It’s an ideal choice for riders who are looking for fully active functionality alongside casual off-the-bike styling.
