I’ve been a long time Gregory fan but am new to their “Commuter” line. That line has a lot of packs to choose from, with three different sizes in the Rhune family alone. Let me help you choose your new daily fav by telling you how much I love this pack. I was stoked to try the Rhune 25L – it came into my life at the perfect time! On top of running a guide service, I also have a new puppy, a complicated new diet, and a new gym plan to pack for every morning. Cap that off with sneaking away from the office to climb and my days are full, full, full! I was definitely in the market for a convenient, do-it-all bag to try to simplify my days. The Rhune 25L easily fit everything I would need for my day which always included: my laptop, notebook, 2 tupperwares of food, Nalgene, dog bowl/food/treats/toys, gym shoes, gym clothes, and all of the little things such as cash/phones/headphones. There are plenty of pockets to keep it all organized and Gregory obviously put a lot of effort into crafting this pack to be comfortable under load. I’ve been very happy with the versatility of this pack and the sheer number of things I can get away with packing in it every day.
Fit/Comfort
The Rhune 25L has an AirCushion foamless back panel and super supple straps. Even when weighted down, this pack doesn’t dig in. My partner is 6’2” and I am 5’4” and it fits both of us comfortably.
Look/Style
I love the matte coloring and off-mustard accents! It’s clean looking despite having four outside pockets.
Features
This is why the Rhune 25L is so great. It has six pockets, two electronics sleeves, three pen holders, and an outside water bottle sleeve to keep everything neatly organized. Even with all the pockets filled, you can still fit clothes/shoes/food/dog toys, and on and on. There’s a ton of room in this pack, without it being bulky. Slinging the Rhune over the back of a chair is simple with an oversized top grab handle, that I often used to quick carry the pack in and out of vehicles.
Weight
This bag is just a touch over two pounds, though I found this inconsequential for city life.
Durability/Construction
The Rhune line is solidly built. While my use with it has been mostly in a city, I have used it almost daily for the past month. No signs of wear on the outside or the zippers. Like all of their packs, the Rhune is backed by Gregory’s Lifetime Guarantee. It’s obvious that they strive to create gear that keeps up, even years down the road.
Friendliness to the Earth
It’s always refreshing to review gear made by responsible companies. The Rhune line, specifically, is made with all recycled materials that results in a 51% lower carbon footprint compared to other nylon packs. Though not perfect (unnecessarily shipped in plastic), Gregory does put forth a lot of effort to make more sustainable gear and make sure the people who make the gear are treated fairly. They also have begun offering a few DIY repair items to be shipped to the consumer instead of having the send the packs back and forth to be repaired – I’m excited to see how that program expands!
The Final Word
Feature-rich, durable, and sustainable – what’s not to love? The Rhune 25L is perfect for those of us who like to have full days in our city lives. It’s been a great, comfortable pack to keep my varied gear organized throughout the day.
