When it comes to first aid kits, I generally know what to look for, and what feels like fluff. After all, I’ve used countless first aid kits in a variety of personal and professional settings, from ski patrolling to mass casualty events to nights spent in the mountains with friends.

Thankfully, I haven’t had to use the Mini Pro in the time I’ve had to test it out. That said, the reason you carry a first aid kit is to help make a bad day better. It might be something as small as blister treatment, or as large as life-saving intervention. MyMedic’s MyFAK Mini Pro has been constantly with me these past few weeks, from my small backpack I wear while mountain biking, to in my garage while running power tools.

Fit/Comfort

The Hypalon MOLLE panel is both durable and lightweight, and the versatile straps facilitate easy mounting and storage. You can even wear this first aid kit like a hip-mounted pack! The oversized zipper ensures reliable access, even in high-stress situations.

Look/Style

MyMedic offers all of their first aid kits in a variety of great colors. I chose red because that felt like the natural choice for a first aid kit in a non-tactical environment.

Weight/Packability

Despite its extensive contents, the MyFAK Mini Pro maintains a manageable weight of 2.7 pounds, making it suitable for various outdoor activities. Its compact dimensions allow it to fit comfortably in backpacks, vehicles, or be mounted on gear using the integrated Hypalon MOLLE panel. It is about the size of a small loaf of bread, and does not compact further.

Function/Performance

The MyFAK Mini Pro is equipped with a large variety of first aid items, organized into categories such as Bleed, Burn, Medication, Sports & Outdoors, Topical, Airway, Hydration, Sprain & Fracture, and Tools & Devices. This organization allows for quick identification and access during emergencies, but it’s important to be familiar with your first aid kit prior to an emergency. Notable inclusions are the RATS Tourniquet for rapid bleeding control, a pack of two chest seals for treating penetrating chest injuries, and a CPR shield to ensure safe resuscitation efforts.

Room for Improvement

Two areas I see room for improvement include the sprain and fracture category, and the paracord. The sprain and fracture category is only equipped to splint a finger or toe, as it only includes a finger splint and a 1”x15’ roll of coban wrap. In a first aid kit with multiple chest seals, I would think a more robust splinting kit would be included. Additionally, the paracord included in the MyFAK Mini Pro is a standard paracord. As is typical, this paracord is cheap and poorly constructed. The sheath and core of this paracord are completely separate, which creates fraying and a weaker cord. Better options are accessory cord, like Sterling Rope’s 3mm cord. More expensive, but far better and longer-lasting.

Durability/Construction

Constructed with a heavy-duty exterior nylon bag, the MyFAK Mini Pro is designed to withstand harsh conditions. Internally, the bag features a folding page design for enhanced organization, numerous mesh pouches, and includes extra space for customization.

What sets the product apart?

MyMedic’s MyFAK Mini Pro is one of the best compact, premade first aid kits I’ve ever used. It isn’t perfect, but it’s far better than any other premade kit I have ever used. The exterior bag is very durable and will last for decades, while the contents are thought out well and include some very important, lifesaving items. All items are easily replenished from MyMedic’s website if they are used or expired.

One distinguishing feature of the MyFAK Mini Pro is its tear-away panel, which allows for rapid deployment in emergencies. This design enables users to quickly detach the kit from its mounted position without unbuckling, saving valuable time. Additionally, the kit includes a free life-saving training course, providing users with essential knowledge to more effectively utilize the supplies.

Who is the product for?

The MyFAK Mini Pro is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts, adventure seekers, and professionals who need a reliable and portable first aid kit. Its comprehensive contents and durable construction make it suitable for activities such as hiking, camping, boating, and backcountry skiing. Ultimately, the kit will be useful in any medical situation, no matter the location. The kit’s design caters to individuals and small groups, ensuring preparedness in various environments.

Friendliness to the Earth

MyMedic does not mention any sustainability initiatives on their website. However, MyMedic does mention several programs they sponsor to help train civilians and professionals in faster and improved disaster response. Some locations they have led programs include Ecuador, Ukraine, Israel, the United States, and Turkey.

The Final Word

The MyFAK Mini Pro by MyMedic offers a well-balanced combination of portability, comprehensive medical supplies, and durable construction. Its thoughtful organization and unique features, such as the tear-away panel, advanced medical contents, and included training course, set it apart from competitors. There is still room for improvement as the splinting and included paracord do not meet the high standard set by the rest of the kit. For those seeking a reliable first aid kit for their adventures and their everyday life, the MyFAK Mini Pro proves to be a valuable investment.
