5 Women Focused Adventure Films

Raise your hand if in the last snowboarding film you saw, all the featured athletes were men. Did we all raise our hands? I would surmise that a majority of us did.

Representation matters. All the children (and adults) out there need to see women athletes and backcountry adventures just as often as their male counterparts. Luckily, we’ve made it easy to get inspired with a list of rad films that feature ALL THE WOMEN. Can we get a ‘hell yes’ from the back row, please?

1. Dream Job featuring Katie Burell by Yellow Tree Films

Women can huck cliffs AND tell jokes? It can’t be true. Au contraire mon amour — WELCOME TO 2021. We promise these 15 minutes are well worth it. Dive in and try not to be sad you aren’t best friends with Katie Burell

2. One Outside Film Grant Masterpieces

Eddie Bauer gave $10,000 to each winner of this film grant to create films that spotlight diversity in the outdoors. Head here to meet those winners, and watch their incredible films. Below is the trailer from As We Have Always Done by Kiki Ong. And again, because we really can’t say it enough — representation MATTERS.

3. Blank Canvas featuring Elena Hight by TGR

You get all the stoke, adrenaline, and fun, but it’s Elena taking the lead. Watch the trailer below, find the full film here.

“Anchored by Elena Hight, a two-time Olympian and X Games champion who, after her success in the world of competition, felt the need to open up a new world of possibilities with snowboarding’s more wild places and people. The cast of characters includes legends both old and new who are here to share their wisdom and experiences with this young rider.”

4. Girls Gone Wide Featuring Kaya Lindsay, Mary Eden, Samantha Mac, and Mercadi Carlson by Kaya Lindsay

Kaya Lindsay is a regular contributor to Dirtbag Dreams. Take a longer read into the inner workings of this film, and then give it a watch. Then maybe, I don’t know, try crack climbing?

5. PEDAL featuring Hera Van Willick by Scott Hardesty

Self supported Hera Van Willick rides her bike throughout the world, literally. With a quick sense of humor, a kind heart, and a love of adventure, Hera pedals us through the tribulations of world travel by bike. Less than 9 minutes? Watch it on your next brain break.

We shall leave you with one of our favorite quotes by the utterly missed Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

“When I’m sometimes asked when will there be enough [women on the Supreme Court] and I say, ‘When there are nine,’ people are shocked. But there’d been nine men, and nobody’s ever raised a question about that.”

Same, Ruth, same.
