  • It’s on the pricier side (but worth it for the quality!)

The Thule Bexey is a game-changer for dog owners who want to safely bike with their pups. Living near a paved bike path in Denver, Colo., we’ve taken the trailer out for several spins around our neighborhood. Not only has the Bexey gotten us on our bikes more often, but it’s also allowed us to explore more areas with Joey. There’s a lake around 6 miles from our house that we used to drive to with Joey, but now biking there with Joey has become a fun new outing. We can’t wait to see where else the Bexey will take us.

Function & Performance

As a dog owner, the Bexey has been an amazing addition to our gear closet. It allows us to bring Joey on outings that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise. The trailer provides a stable, smooth ride for her, even when we go over bumps. We’ve taken the Bexey on both paved and gravel paths, and it handled both surfaces easily.

Not only does it work well as a dog trailer, but it also doubles as a dog crate. By simply removing the trailer arm and wheels, the Bexey transforms into a convenient place for your dog to sleep or stay contained. With all the gear we already have, it’s great that this product serves multiple functions.

Durability & Construction

I’ve been very impressed with the durability of the dog trailer and the materials it was constructed with. Overall it’s s sturdy and well-made. With a dog, you know whatever they are using will go through the wringer, so it’s important that it’s made with high-quality materials that will last. Thule clearly put a lot of thought into the materials, and I’m confident this trailer will last a long time based on our experiences so far.

Features

The Thule Bexey is packed with thoughtful features. The top, back, and side panels are all mesh, giving Joey great ventilation and visibility while we bike. The large back door with a low entry point makes it easy for dogs to hop in and out. I appreciated that there is a lever that locks the wheels to stabilize the trailer while the dog gets in and out. There’s also zip-out floor and walls, which are easy to clean—because let’s be real, it’s going to get dirty!

Packability

Storage was clearly a priority in the Bexey design. It folds down compactly, and the wheels come off easily, making it easy to store in a small space. Collapsing and disassembling it is a breeze, so stashing it away between rides is no hassle at all.

Fit & Comfort

Joey weighs 60lb and is a standard medium-sized dog. We opted for the large size so she could be comfortable using the Bexey as both a trailer and a crate. With the large, she can fully lay down inside or sit up with her head out of the trailer while we ride. While Joey can’t speak for herself, she seemed very comfortable, and the padded floor provides a soft surface for sitting or laying down.

Look & Style

The Bexey is sleek and stylish. I love the black and green color scheme, and the overall design looks fantastic. Every time we’ve taken Joey out in the Bexey, we’ve gotten compliments!

Set up

Setting up the Bexey and connecting it to the bike was quick and straightforward. Once you attach the hitch piece to your bike, you’re ready to go. One of my favorite features is how easy it is to take the trailer on and off, making it versatile for different uses. The trailer even has a built-in lock, which keeps it secure if you need to leave it for a quick errand.

Training

Before heading out for your first ride, I highly recommend getting your dog used to the trailer. We started by letting Joey sit inside the Bexey without the wheels off, allowing her to get familiar with it. Once she was comfortable, we added the wheels and let her try again at the new height. Using treats can help if your dog is hesitant! Finally, we hooked the trailer to the bike and let her get used to being inside while it was attached. She did great!

For her first ride, Joey was a bit nervous over bumps, but she quickly settled once we hit the smooth bike path. I will admit Joey typically goes with the flow of where we take her and ask her to do, so I wasn’t surprised she was comfortable going for a ride in the dog trailer. However, not all dogs will take to a trailer immediately, so take it slow and let your dog adjust at their own pace.

The Final Word

The Thule Bexey dog trailer is the ultimate accessory for dog parents who don’t want to leave their pup at home while adventuring. With its versatile design and thoughtful features, it’s perfect for anyone who bikes regularly and wants to bring their dog along for the ride. Thule knocked it out of the park with the Bexey, and I’d highly recommend this trailer for anyone looking to get more outdoor time with their dog. We’re excited to bring Joey out with us more than ever with this fantastic new gear addition!
