ProView – HIMALI Women’s Eclipse Sun Hoodie Review

As a redheaded, fair-skinned woman who loves spending time outdoors — sun protection is not something I can take lightly. I’m always equipped with sunscreen, a hat, and clothing that covers as much of my skin as possible. All to say … sun hoodies are my best friend. I can never have enough of these in my life and they will come along with me on every adventure during any season of the year.

I had the opportunity to test the HIMALI Eclipse Sun Hoodie on the beach walking and jogging in San Diego and hiking in the Rocky Mountains. In all of my testing the sun was shining and I definitely needed some extra sun protection.

Fit/Comfort

The fabric of this hoodie is incredibly soft and lightweight. I ordered an XS, my true size, and it was the perfect fit for me. Loose enough to go over any of my layers, but not too oversized. 

Look/Style

I really like the look of the hoodie. The design is simple and there are a variety of colors to choose from. I selected the Storm color which I think is the perfect neutral.

Features

Features are where the HIMALI Eclipse Sun Hoodie shines. I have other sun hoodies that are lightweight and have a hood which are essential pieces of this apparel item, but I’ve never had any with additional features until the Eclipse Sun Hoodie. This sun hoodie features a pocket on the left side near the bottom hem of the shirt perfect for stashing lip balm, sunglasses, or a credit card. I was pleasantly surprised with how secure my items felt in the pocket. While I probably wouldn’t put anything important, like keys, in there during a trail run as the pocket is secured with just a flap, I would definitely throw my essentials in there during a hike. In addition to the pocket, the sun hoodie also has thumb straps to keep the sleeves over your hands. As someone who has experienced sunburnt hands, I LOVE the ability to get a little extra coverage on my hands, especially for days I’m hiking with poles. 

I also want to note that the hood was great at protecting my face from the sun and provided the perfect amount of shade. The hood is on the smaller size, great for under a helmet while climbing or over a beanie on a colder day.

Weight/Packability

The sun hoodie is super lightweight, coming in at around 4oz. Even though I’d absolutely prioritize room in my bag for a sun hoodie on any trip, it’s awesome how small this one packs down.

Function/Performance

This sun hoodie rocks! The fabric is lightweight, soft, and keeps me protected from the harsh sun with its UPF 20 rating. It feels like HIMALI put a lot of time into designing this hoodie with the thumb straps, pocket, and hood. While using the hoodie I was impressed with how breathable this layer is and how quickly sweat dried while I was working hard. It really provides everything I’m looking for in a sun hoodie.

Durability

So far the HIMALI Eclipse Sun Hoodie has held up to the hikes and adventures I’ve taken it on. The fabric feels durable and I’m hopeful this item will stand up to the test of time.
